Skylights for Windsor homes

Windsor's homes range from early-1900s brick houses in Walkerville and the older core to post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions in the east and south ends. Skylights on older Windsor homes were often added in the 1980s or 1990s with flashing that's now well past its life. When we replace those units, we also check the framing around the opening, since long-term leaks can soften the wood.

What's included

Skylight replacement, new installations and re-flashing to stop leaks around existing skylights. Depending on your roof, the work can include:

Skylight replacement
New skylights
Sun tunnels
Leak repair
Removal
During a roof replacement.
When the seal fails.
After repeated leaks.
When upgrading a room.

Full details, how the work runs and common questions are on our main skylights page.

Local conditions in Windsor

Many older Windsor homes still have painted wood soffits with no ventilation, downspouts connected underground and eavestroughs that have been patched for years. Updating the whole roofline at once usually solves overflow, rot and attic airflow problems together.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for skylights in Windsor, get clear answers to these before signing:

Will you use the manufacturer's flashing kit for my roofing type?
Is the problem a leak or condensation?
Does a new opening need a permit?
Who will finish the interior light shaft?

Permits and approvals

Building permits in Windsor are issued by the City of Windsor's Building Services department. Replacing shingles with similar materials usually doesn't need a permit, but structural repairs, new roof framing, new skylight openings and changes to the roof structure generally do. We confirm what applies to your project during planning.
